By Gaurav Parvadiya | Last Updated On November 6th, 2023
With a small team, and no marketing expert in it, Twinr recently did successful product hunt launch and became a product of the day, product of the week and received 4 badges in total. If you want to learn more about the techniques that we used, you are at the right place. If you are new to Product Hunt and don’t know much about Product Hunt, it starts with choosing the right hunter, who can guide you throughout the process.
While planning for launching your product on product hunt, go through the product hunt launch guide, and build your product hunt launch strategy.
What really counts on product hunt is to get support from product hunt community, early adopters, and marketers. Product hunt decides the ranking of product based on number of upvotes, reviews, and feedback in comments.
If you want to launch a product and make it successful launch, you must start with preparing your pre-launch checklist, Product hunt launch checklist, and post-launch checklist.
You can follow step-by-step guide to launching your next product and add momentum to your product journey by becoming #1 product of the day.
Just like when we look for a partner in a relationship, we don’t look for a 𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫, 𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡 or a 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧, instead we look for a 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 and 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 person 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 and 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦. 👫
When I read about blogs on hunting the product on ProductHunt, 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐬, 𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫.
What I have learned so far, is that 𝐢𝐭‘𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, but the 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐢𝐧.
✅ Find someone who guides you throughout the launch journey, basically 𝐀 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐁𝐞 𝐀 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫. 🙌🏻
✅ When you meet, 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫. 🏹
✅ Look at the 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫. 🤝
✅ 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐮𝐩𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭, if the hunter would help you promote on their social media platforms or no. 📣
✅ 𝐈𝐟 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲, 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐚 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲, if the product becomes the 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲, it creates social proof for the hunter. ⭐️
✅ 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫, that work with you to help you succeed. 🤝
There is no specific rule as such but, usually Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are the most competitive days. We launched on Monday both the times and secured 1000+ upvotes and became #1 product of the day. If you wish less competition, then launching on Friday, Saturday and Sunday is recommended.
✅ Create social media plan and create social media posts. 🤝 ✅ If possible schedule social media posts across different platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Reddit, Telegram, Slack, Whatsapp groups, etc. 🤝
Twinr is industry agnostic and technology agnostic, hence, we wanted to demonstrate how Twinr can be used for different industries, hence ran 12days12usecases webinar series.
✅ Prepared different industry webinar tutorials and publish it during the launch on YouTube.
✅ For the webinars, we took industry leading companies website and prepared a mobile app for that during the webinars.
Product hunt is a community driven platform hence, building a supportive community who could test your product during the launch day and you can ask for feedback from other entrepreneur, and product managers.
✅ Look for coming soon products and connect with the founders.
✅ Look for the daily launched products and connect with the founders and provide your feedback.
✅ Look for the most active Product Hunt members and connect with them.
✅ Look for the Product Hunt leaderboard and connect with the founders.
✅ Look for most engaging PH members from Discussions and who could upvote your product.
✅ Connect with founders and learn from the practices they use.
✅ Learn what are the discussions that get more traction from other users.
✅ Create meaningful discussion and create catchy title for the discussion.
✅ Continue replying and comment on the discussion to increase the reach.
✅ Share the discussions on Twitter and LinkedIn to get additional tractions.
✅ Provide quality feedback or add thoughtful comments in the engagement.
✅ Share what you are working on, how you are making progress and start building in public.
✅ Share updates on Twitter and use #buildinpublic, to keep the community updated about your product and progress.
✅ Add your product to indie hacker, and add your Startup story, or any relevant post that you might feel worthy to let people know.
✅ On the launch day, create post and share updates with community on a regular basis.
✅ Support others before you want others to support you, it’s give and take.
✅ I personally, run a campaign, “YourLaunchMyTweet” to support other founders, reach out to us and I will share your product with my network, this increases the chances of success.
✅ Contribute to others success, and in return you might get awesome community support.
✅ You help others because you like it, it should not comply others to support you back.
Reached out for feedback from 𝐮𝐧𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 to Ryan Hoover, Kevin William David, 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐚 reached out to as many people as possible to try out the your product and get feedback and support.
✅ Start with the Product Hunt leaderboard, and see most respected PH Members and ask them to provide review for your product.
✅ Look at the people with longest streak and connect with them on Twitter and LinkedIn.
✅ Find out similar product in the same domain, and find out upvoters and supporters and reach out to them.
✅ On the launch day, share the launch url that linking directly to your product with the audience on the ph launch day, so they can provide you upvote and feedback.
✅ Find out the Product Hunt related groups on Facebook, and create coming soon post as soon as possible and launch post on the launch day.
✅ Find out the Product Hunt related groups on LinkedIn and create coming soon post as soon as possible and launch post on the launch day.
✅ Find out different WhatsApp Communities related to Product Hunt and join them as soon as possible and provide value in the group and support other founders.
✅ Find out different Telegram Communities related to Product Hunt and join them as soon as possible and provide value in the group and support other founders.
✅ Find out different Slack Communities related to Product Hunt and join them as soon as possible and provide value in the group and support other founders.
✅ Find out different Discord Communities related to Product Hunt and join them as soon as possible and provide value in the group and support other founders.
✅ Find out the Product Hunt related subreddits on Reddit and join them as soon as possible and provide value there and support other founders.
✅ Create account on Indie hackers and add continuous updates there.
✅ Create a copy that can easily guide users and talks about your product.
✅ I created one pager for Twinr to demonstrate reviews, case studies and important links.
✅ Add one pager in the makers comment or in product description to add extra value without making the content too dense.
✅ Create and schedule the launch as soon as possible.
✅ Start sharing the coming soon page with people to build good amount of subscribers before the launch.
✅ Connect with your subscribers on social media, LinkedIn and Twitter. In my experience LinkedIn works best.
✅ Leverage Product Hunt coming soon launches monthly email by scheduling your launch well ahead of time. If your product get placed in PH Monthly email of coming soon launches, it might boost your subscribers in good numbers.
✅ On different community platforms, either WhatsApp, Slack, Discord, or Telegram talk to other founders and create connection with them.
✅ Don’t feel shy, ask for support and ask for best practices from Hunter as well as other makers and founders. Experience is the best teacher and learning from them can help you not make the mistakes they did.
✅ Progressively you will learn about Product Hunt and with your perspective you might look at things differently, start sharing those observations with people.
✅ Look what are things that worked for you, curate a list and share it with people either as Product Hunt discussion, LinkedIn post, or Twitter thread.
😊 When you reach out to people, you will meet a different range of people. Some people will give you detailed feedback and you will be amazed this world is full of wonderful people. At the same time you might find people, who will say I don’t have time or might say something that may hurt you.
But don’t take it personally, we have to understand everyone has different situations in their personal life. So be kind, and move on to the next potential supporter who might provide you with feedback that could help you with your product and business.
Hence, sometimes 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 or 𝐧𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥, but 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 and 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭. 🏹
✅ Whether it is Reddit, Telegram group, or WhatsApp group, learn about the group guidelines.
✅ Some community might have specific channels where you can post about your launch, so respect that rule otherwise people might get offended.
✅ If you are part of WhatsApp group, do not DM group members directly without their consent, people might get offended.
✅ Do not post too many messages for seeking support on the launch day. You might be excited, nervous and looking for support from as many people as possible. But, you might overdo it and people might feel it is spammy. Hence, if you are not aware of these, check with the admin first regarding the group guidelines.
✅ Send an email to your customers educating them, that you are planning for Product Hunt launch and you would love to get support from them.
✅ Ask them to either subscribe your coming soon page, or join the subscribers list.
✅ Not everybody is familiar with Product Hunt, especially your customers, you need to educate them, how they can support you during the launch.
✅ On the launch day, when your product goes live, send your customers an email with your product link to let them know that you are live and ask them to support your launch.
✅ Don’t ask your friends and family members to create a new account and support you even if you are getting tough competition.
✅ Quality of upvotes and comments matter than quantity of upvotes and comments.
✅ At the end of the day, Product Hunt removes low value Upvotes and their upvotes won’t be considered. So, save yourself some time, and breathe.
✅ It doesn’t make any sense to me but this is how Product Hunt works, that while requesting for support you can not use the word Upvote, instead ask them to support you.
✅ Create a list of people contacted, with the channels and the time zone they are in.
✅ If you have multiple people who will do the outreach, make sure you are not reaching out same personal on multiple channels and multiple times, it might feel spammy or annoying.
✅ LinkedIn has outperformed all other channels when it comes to response rate.
✅ Whatsapp, Twitter, Emails, and Facebook are three other channels which we had used.
✅ Send email to your customers to Say Thank You for supporting you on a launch day.
✅ In each community, WhatsApp, Discord, Slack, Telegram or any other community, appreciate their support and say thank you to them.
